THEENDA Awaits Us All…

by David LaPlantz ·

THEENDA awaits us all. We don’t know when that day and time might bless us. When it’s time to go, it’s time to go. When their work is done she/he rides away.

The Beatles said it well, “That’s the end, little girl.” I always hear, “That’s the enda, little girl.” What do you hear? Use your time with vitality, commitment and passion before THEENDA…….        Namaste

Anti-Pollution Brooch

by David LaPlantz ·

With all of the local, national and world-wide distractions, lest we not forget pollution. Pollution has not gone away. Our oxygen is still being attacked daily and the perpetrators ignored by the power people. Our lungs deserve clean air to breath. All of nature and our children deserve better.

Bring back the clear blue sky, the fresh clean air and our physical dignity.

These family members are quite tight and wanted to have a special group portrait. The hats were well represented with both intensity of stories and vibrant color exchanges, warm and passionate…….

Gail M. Brown Interviews David LaPlantz

by David LaPlantz ·

I was reminded today of a Gail M. Brown interview. Our 2004 conversation centered around a coupla (early 2000’s) microphones I created in homage to Fats Domino, R. & B. and Rock ‘n Roll. Perhaps you’ve seen these microphones before, if not, click here: Dos Dominoes Microphones in Ohio. Or, click your heels! It worked for Dorothy & Toto….

I love microphones and the people who speak into the microphones! Their utterances are often so unbelievable that an art microphone needs to pay homage to the speaker and/or their spoken words.

The verbal made visible, life just doesn’t get any better!!!!!!

February, Family Reunion

by David LaPlantz ·

A few members of the February Brooch Family got together for a small reunion. Here’s a family portrait. The gathering was colorful and full of vibrant imagery, as each member told their individual stories. Some stories were very emotional, while others were light hearted, mellow and funny.       What’s your story?

Swimming, Talking and Confusion

by David LaPlantz ·

Swimming, talking and the language of confusion. Ever ask yourself, okay — now where do we go from here? We’ve used the words we grew up with and they seemed to have served us well. Then, ever so slowly, those same words and their usual combinations do not seem to work as well anymore. It’s like water slowly freezing, becoming a solid, where once the clear liquid flowed quite freely and magically. Maybe the Magician’s Black Top Hat & White Gloves have somehow lost their power? How do we energize the hat & gloves again? Or is it time to put on our hat & gloves and accept the clear reality that we simply have to do the best with what we’ve got?                                                     Ahh, life’s questions that wax and wane…….

Red, Top Hat Rain, Brooch

by David LaPlantz ·

The red, top hat rained on the people. Was it benevolent or malevolent rain? Do you suppose there is any significance, whatsoever, that a portion of the word malevolent is the word male?       Nah.

Kinda like the word history. Why not spell it herstory? Life is not always about the male. Plenty of females have greatly contributed to history, opps, I mean herstory……..

Then Again, Time To Fold…….

by David LaPlantz ·

Life presents choices & options. Some of us carefully examine the choices and make the right choice. Some dig in their heels and end up heels. Some choose to make other peoples’ lives hell. Only sadness, death & destruction is the outcome.

In the end, leaving is leaving. Life sends messages that require our attention. In cards, one must know when to fold. When its over, it is time to fold your tent and leave. The tan, desert sand sends many messages. The old, tent owner must leave…….

Hell Bent For Leather

by David LaPlantz ·

We laid on our sides all night long. The crackling thunder and lightening storm periodically woke us while the rain ricocheted off the aging, corrugated iron roof. As the howling wind forcefully made the room drafty, we drifted back to sleep. When the sun finally signaled the start of another day, we knew it was time to go back to work. The cowboy’s wool socks felt inviting as his feet slid into each of us. Such is the life of a pair of hand made cowboy boots. We’ve been living this life now for 5 years, day and night, rain and sunshine, hot & cold, clean and muddy.

Our Dear Mother and maker Deana McGuffin told us such incredible stories while she was creating us. All of her stories, which we sometimes doubted, were realistic & true. Thankfully, she prepared us physically, mentally and spiritually for the hard labor we perform “Day In and Day Out” (Mom really liked Johnny Mercer’s lyrics).

Here’s to you Mom — love, Lefty and Righty McGuffin. Write when you have time!

Dichotomy Brooch

by David LaPlantz ·

The Dichotomy (polarity) could not be ignored. It’s bold and blatant attitude was so darkly immense that humanity felt the squeeze in every aspect of their lives. Why you ask?              Greed is the response.
