“2White Kites” Brooch

by David LaPlantz ·

2 +2 + 4 + 4 = more than you’ll ever know……. The border knows many things that drone on and on, flying low and watching, waiting for i-l-l-e-g-a-l-s trying to get driver’s licenses.

“Kinda Odd” Brooch

by David LaPlantz ·

Surprises abound in the magical, mysterious & wacky process of making art. David never ceases to be amazed and astounded with what appears on his bench pin. Today he was working along and was surprised by what he witnessed . This image is so different from some of the other more recent creations. What can one say, either than, never give up?

“Lavender Blues/All Strings Attached” Brooch

by David LaPlantz ·

It has been said that Red Nev-Al knew all along about the plot, even suggested the events, sanctioned and funded the entire fiasco. When questioned in court, he disavowed any knowledge or personal connection and the jury believed him. Chalk up another one for excellent debate and speaking skills.

The Day I Became Me

by David LaPlantz ·

23 Sandy Gallery http://23sandy.com/works/product-category/shereen-laplantz is pleased to present this limited edition hand bound book by an artist who is often credited with sparking the modern day explosion of interest in the field of book arts. This spark was lit back in 1995 when her seminal book, Cover to Cover, was first published. Shereen’s work is the reason many artists are active in the field still today. She inspired a generation of artists with her own collectible limited editions and her accessible, commercially published book with easy-to-follow instructions on how to make books as art.The Day I Became Me is a limited edition artist book, one of the last available titles by a remarkable artist who left us much, much too early and is dearly missed.

Shereen wrote about this book, “This book is about me, as a kid, growing up outrageously tall compared to the other kids and trying to fit in. Then there was a day, that started out as my worst nightmare of a day -and-ended up turning me into the person I am today. I discovered that filling in is dull and standing out is spectacular.”

You’re not seeing things, there really is a necklace around the stick figure’s neck on the cover. The necklace Shereen is wearing on the front, book cover is made up of eight miniature replicas of book cover that include the following:

A – Abcedary
B – Beastiary
G – Girdle
H – How To Book
I – Illuminated
J – Journal
L – Leaf Book
N – Nonesuch

The Day I Became Me was an extremely important book for Shereen to create because it chronicled an important day in Shereen’s life, allowed her to honor her dear Mother Grace Buckland while revealing the close bond Shereen held with her Mother.
