Jishiku is the Japanese word for self restraint.

David was listening to “Here and Now” on KSFR, Santa Fe, NM’s only public radio station, about the Japanese restraining themselves from buying, using electricity, etc. in solidarity with their sisters and brothers still affected by the results of the earthquake and tsunami. He was touched by the their action or lack of, as the case may be.

Perhaps Americans could learn an important lesson from the Japanese jishiku?

At each intersection of life, friends and lovers meet.

Then the sparks fly one way or the other…….

Frequently, David’s Mother will remind him of that quote. Remembering back is such a wondrous opportunity to connect with our minds from another time.
