Hell Bent For Leather

by David LaPlantz ·

We laid on our sides all night long. The crackling thunder and lightening storm periodically woke us while the rain ricocheted off the aging, corrugated iron roof. As the howling wind forcefully made the room drafty, we drifted back to sleep. When the sun finally signaled the start of another day, we knew it was time to go back to work. The cowboy’s wool socks felt inviting as his feet slid into each of us. Such is the life of a pair of hand made cowboy boots. We’ve been living this life now for 5 years, day and night, rain and sunshine, hot & cold, clean and muddy.

Our Dear Mother and maker Deana McGuffin told us such incredible stories while she was creating us. All of her stories, which we sometimes doubted, were realistic & true. Thankfully, she prepared us physically, mentally and spiritually for the hard labor we perform “Day In and Day Out” (Mom really liked Johnny Mercer’s lyrics).

Here’s to you Mom — love, Lefty and Righty McGuffin. Write when you have time!
